Statement of the Right Rev. Mariann Edgar Budde, Episcopal Bishop of Washington and Interim Dean of Washington National Cathedral, on the Death of Justice Antonin Scalia
Washington, D.C. – Washington National Cathedral joins in prayer for Justice Antonin Scalia, his family and colleagues, and our nation. We mourn his death, celebrate his legal mind and give thanks for his extraordinary life of public service.
One of the most influential jurists of our time, Justice Scalia will long be remembered for his brilliance, passion, and dedication to the rule of law—even by those who did not always agree with him. May he and the souls of all the departed rest in peace and rise in glory.
The process to appoint and confirm Justice Scalia’s successor will no doubt incite passions on both sides of the aisle. We pray for wisdom, patience and forbearance in this process as a testament to Justice Scalia’s devotion to the courts and his country.
