Washington National Cathedral to Feature Special Guest Preacher Rev. Rob Schenck on Sunday During Holy Eucharist Service

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Washington National Cathedral will hold a celebration of Holy Eucharist on the first Sunday of Advent, November 29, at 11:15 am. The service will feature guest preacher Rev. Rob Schenck with the Very Rev. Gary Hall, dean of the Cathedral, presiding.

Rev. Schenck is the president and lead missionary of Faith and Action, the chairman of the Evangelical Church Alliance, and president of the National Clergy Council. Schenck is also the focus of a new documentary directed by Abigail Disney, “The Armor of Light,” which follows him and gun violence victim Lucy McBath, two unlikely allies, on their journey to reexamine gun violence through a moral lens.

The Cathedral will host a screening and Q&A of “The Armor of Light” at 1 p.m. in Perry Auditorium after the Holy Eucharist service. Rt. Rev. Mariann Edgar Budde, Bishop of Episcopal Diocese of Washington, will moderate the Q&A session.

“While there are any number of issues on which Rev. Schenck and Episcopalians might hold different positions, we are united in our commitment to follow Christ, to seek God’s will in all things, and in our desire to reduce gun violence in America,” said Rt. Rev. Mariann Edgar Budde. “I feel blessed at the beginning of this new friendship with Rev. Schenck.”

In 2012, the Washington National Cathedral launched its gun violence prevention initiative after the tragic shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. Sunday’s screening is a part of the Cathedral’s ongoing efforts to engage and mobilize people across all faiths and denominations around gun violence prevention.

The Holy Eucharist service and movie screening are open to the public.
