Washington National Cathedral Announces Memorial Service for Ambassador Robert Strauss

WASHINGTON — Washington National Cathedral announced today that it will host the memorial service for Robert S. Strauss on at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 23. Ambassador Strauss passed away on March 19. Vernon E. Jordan Jr., a close advisor of President Bill Clinton, and former Secretary of State James A. Baker, III will delivery eulogies.

The Cathedral service will celebrate Strauss’s lifetime of exceptional contributions to the nation, including service as chair of the Democratic National Committee, U.S. Trade Representative and special envoy to the Middle East in the Carter administration, and Ambassador to the Soviet Union, and subsequently, Russia, during the presidency of George H.W. Bush. In 1981, Strauss was named the recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest award a civilian can receive. An accomplished lawyer, he also founded the law firm Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld.
