Washington National Cathedral Statement on the Death of Jim Brady

Washington, D.C. — The Very Rev. Gary Hall, dean of Washington National Cathedral, today released the following statement on the passage of gun violence prevention advocate James Brady, who was shot and wounded during an assassination attempt on President Ronald Reagan.

“The death of James Brady saddens all Americans. In the years since his tragic shooting in 1981, Brady has been a symbol of courage, compassion, and leadership in his long campaign to curb gun violence in our nation. History thrust him into a role that nobody would covet, but he lived into it with remarkable faithfulness and energy. He showed us all how to live abundantly even after an incomparable loss, and his passing calls us all to redouble our efforts to keep dangerous weapons out of the hands of unstable people.”
